I am very satisfied overall with my purchase and highly recommend this particular machine over similar products found on the internet. If you enjoy working on projects and have some skill in CNC type work there is a lot of value in this package. All of the parts are there, the system works, however one must realize that this is not something that you can just plug in and run right away.

It took a bit of doing to install the drivers properly and now the machine is running in production mode only 3 weeks after receiving it.

I use Inkscape to interpret my daughters designs and K40 Whisperer software (both freeware) to operate the laser. I have a honeycomb table on order to replace the work holding plate that comes with the machine. Alignment is easy and the machine stays put when torqued down. I also bought new high end mirrors and a larger focus lens. Complete removal of the work table and the entire gantry system has to be removed to do this properly. I also added an air-assist to the system and cut back the exhaust duct inside the laser working area because it interfered with the air-assist nozzle. I then modified the exhaust fan with a PVC 4' flange which I glued to the input and it works great. The suction duct on the exhaust fan is useless for this machine and I bought a hood specifically designed for this machine which fits the brackets perfectly. I highly suggest this and it has proved useful already after the return line had pulled out of the water tank once when adding bagged ice cubes to the coolant supply (it's been 103В° F in Austin lately). The water pump proved to be adequate, and I added a flow indicator to the return line for a visual confirmation of flow. No big deal, I just went through all of that and ensured that all connections were solid.

After unpacking and setting it up on a table, there were a few electrical connections which had vibrated loose in shipment, or were poorly constructed. It arrived 5 working days after placing the order. It was shipped from inside the US and required no shipping charges or tax to be collected up on receipt.

The machine arrived in good condition, was packed well, and there were no missing parts.

I am very happy with this laser as it incorporates several improvements over similar products, such as a coolant temperature indicator and a digital power interface. I settled on the K40 as a starter piece of equipment and after literally weeks of investigation settled on this unit. She is an artist and her current interest lies in the computer graphic arena, so I settled on purchasing a laser cutter/engraver where I could take her designs and etch/engrave them onto a variety of materials. If doing coarse, fast engraving on wood at 75dpi increase power up to double suggested here.I am a semi retired Mechanical Engineer and was looking for something that my daughter and I could work on together. These setting are optimum for around 150-300dpi. You need to experiment with that yourself.Д®ngrave VectorВ is when engraving with vectors, i.e.В line work.Д®ngrave RasterВ is when raster engraving, such as doing a bitmap. It sometimes possible to cut thicker using multiple passes and adjusting the table height, but that depends heavily on how well everything in your system is aligned and will be machine dependent. These setting are for use with the 50mm (2') lens which usually comes standard, and for a single pass of the laser. So if you know the true output power of your machine then scale accordingly. I have already established by making power measurements that my true maximum power is 36W with the power set 80%. These are the values which work best for me on a 50W cheap Chinese laser cutter. If you're just starting out these values should provide you a good starting point to experiment from and see what works best for you.
